Pat Murray - 2013 Recipient of the Harvard University Distinguished Teacher Award
The Harvard Club of Long Island has named PMHS Science teacher, Pat Murray, a 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award for his contributions toward the students in the Pat-Med school district. Each year, the Harvard Club interviews hundreds of applicants to Harvard University and asks these students to nominate the teacher who made the greatest difference in his or her life. PMHS 2012 graduate, Saad Amir, nominated Pat Murray and described his dedication and influence in the following excerpt.
“All my life, I have never had a hero: no one to look up to, no one who saw the potential in me. But then I met Mr. Patrick Murray, my science teacher at PMHS. It’s because of him that I was accepted to Harvard. He was my best friend, my second Dad, and my hero. So rarely comes a teacher who inspires so many. Mr. Murray is, by far, the most compelling educator out there. Being able to encourage the citizens of tomorrow is what drives him to passionately carry out every lesson, every day.”
This award will be given to Pat Murray at an upcoming University Relations Lunch in April. There are only a few teachers on LI that this award has been bestowed upon and the entire membership of the PMCT congratulates Pat Murray for his recognition by Harvard University and his dedication as a teacher to all his students. .
