The US House of Representatives has just passed a jobs bill which includes $203 Billion dollars for Education. Out of that money about $1.4 billion is marked for the New York State Education Department. The bill is now in the US Senate (uh oh) which supports the general amount but is adding more restrictions and proposes to roll out the money in parcels. Passage of this bill is critical to NYS education funding.

Here's what you can do to help. Please share this with your colleagues
1. Go to the NYSUT Legislative Action Page
2. Click on FAX your US Legislator
3. Check the box that says: Support the Education Jobs Fund and Extend FMAP (check any other boxes that are of interest to you)
4. Go back to Legislative Action Page and click FAX your NY State legislator
5. Click on boxes 3 and 4:

  • Restore K-12 Proposed Budget Cuts
  • Restore Funding to Teacher Centers (There are other boxes you might want to check here as well)
Then, just follow the directions on the right and you can automatically fax all elected officials, including the Governor.
Your participation in this effort is critically important to restore funding for all our districts and programs.
