The teacher conference day on September 4th was the first day of the
2007-2008 academic year and also the first day of a “No Contract” school year for PMCT members.  The entire membership of 630 teachers met at the PMHS auditorium and were addressed by several district administrators and members of the school board.  Many PMCT members were honored for 20, 25, 30 and 35 year service to the district as well as the recognition of teachers that were awarded tenure this year.
PMCT president Paul Pecorale was greeted by thunderous applause and recited a song from the hit movie “Hairspray” with some slight changes as we begin the school year with an expired contract.  The title of the song is
“I Know Where I’ve Been” and Paul’s version is as follows:

“There’s a light in the darkness, there’s a light burning bright showing us the way
but we know where we’ve been.
There’s a cry in the distance. It’s a voice that comes from deep within.
There’s a cry asking why ‘Cause we know where we’ve been.
There’s a road we’ve been travelin’, lost so many on the way
But the riches will be plenty, worth the price we had to pay.
There’s a dream in the future, there’s a struggle we have yet to win,
And there’s pride in our hearts, ‘cause we know where we’re going
and we know where we’ve been.
There’s a road we must travel, there’s a promise we must make
‘Cause the riches will be plenty, worth the risk and chances that we take.
There’s a dream in the future, there’s a struggle we have yet to win.
Use that pride in our hearts to lift us up to tomorrow
‘Cause just to sit still would be a sin
We know it, we know it
We know where we’re going ! “

Paul concluded by asking all PMCT members that we remember
where we have been, where we are right now and where we
need to go in the future.
Best Wishes to all PMCT members for a happy and
 productive school year
