Over 70 members of PMCT attended the annual “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” walk held on Sunday, Oct. 16th at Jones Beach State Park. PMCT led the way with the highest amount of donations collected totaling $8,044.00 and also the highest percentage of membership turnout for the event. After 9 straight days of rain, the weather that day was beautiful with bright sunshine and a slight breeze. PMCT Outreach Co-chairs, Jackie Nolan and Linda Nowicki were set up under the NYSUT tent to register PMCT walkers and to accept additional donations.

This year’s “walk” was in honor of the late Sandra Feldman, former president of the AFT, who lost her battle with breast cancer in September. Sandra worked tirelessly for better lives for all teachers and school staff members. PMCT wore pink armbands as a tribute to Sandra Feldman.

The five-mile non-competitive walk up and down the Jones Beach Boardwalk raised $2.3 million dollars, with over $650,000 raised by NYSUT members. PMCT congratulates all PMCT members who walked or contributed to this worthy cause and their support is truly appreciated.
